Aimée Doran

Aimée called to the Bar in 2025 after nine years as a solicitor in both the private and public sectors.

She has a wide range of experience spanning personal injury, clinical negligence, fatal accident inquiries, public inquiries, criminal and regulatory matters, and professional disciplinary law.

Aimée has acted in a variety of personal injury claims, including workplace and industrial accidents, road traffic incidents, and occupiers’ and public liability cases. She has a particular interest in claims arising from historic abuse and is available for instruction by both pursuers and defenders.

She brings substantial criminal court experience, having appeared in both summary and solemn proceedings across Scotland. She has worked on serious and sensitive cases and has experience in dealing with vulnerable witnesses. She has contributed to high-profile and complex defence work in the High Court and was responsible for preparing an application to the European Court of Human Rights.

Immediately prior to calling, Aimée served as a Procurator Fiscal Depute, latterly within the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit at Crown Office, where she was responsible for the preparation and presentation of both mandatory and discretionary Fatal Accident Inquiries.

In professional disciplinary matters, Aimée has successfully represented clients before the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and the Office of the Traffic Commissioner for Scotland.

As a solicitor, Aimée was part of the legal team representing a core participant in the Edinburgh Tram Inquiry. During devilling, she was involved in both the UK and Scottish Covid Inquiries and the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry.

PERSONAL INJURY / REPARATION

Reid v Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Limited, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, 27 April 2026 – counsel for the pursuer in a defended road traffic proof – liability admitted but causation and quantum disputed – low-velocity collision – whether pursuer had established soft-tissue lumbar injury where she was 37 weeks pregnant, self-managed her symptoms and did not attend hospital or GP – decree granted for solatium with interest.

Uwaifo v Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited, unreported - Glasgow Sheriff Court, 2025 –counsel for the pursuer in a defended low-velocity impact road traffic proof before Sheriff Reid – liability admitted but causation and quantum disputed – credibility and reliability, expert orthopaedic evidence and soft-tissue injury – decree granted for the pursuer at the conclusion of proof.

FATAL ACCIDENT INQUIRIES

Inquiry into the deaths of Kayden Walker and Ruaridh Stevenson, Falkirk Sheriff Court, 2025 – counsel for Outdoor Pursuits Scotland Ltd in a discretionary conjoined Fatal Accident Inquiry before Sheriff O’Mahony – 10-day inquiry concerning the death of a 12-year-old child during a riverboarding activity and the death of an instructor during a canyoning expedition – risk assessment, instructor competency, safety systems, emergency planning and regulation of water-based outdoor activities.

Inquiry into the death of Darrin Callander, Hamilton Sheriff Court, 2025 – counsel for Lanarkshire Health Board in a 4-day mandatory Fatal Accident Inquiry concerning the death of a 48-year-old man in legal custody at HMP Shotts – healthcare provision in custody, circumstances of death and reasonable precautions to minimise future risk.

FAI Re Death of Elizabeth McCready - As a solicitor - Discretionary Fatal Accident Inquiry following an in-patient suicide within a mental health institution.

FAI Re Death of Brendan Reilly - As a solicitor - Mandatory Fatal Accident Inquiry following a death in custody. Recommendations made by the Sheriff directed at the prison institution following the conclusion of the FAI.

PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLINE / REGULATORY

Nursing and Midwifery Council v McAteer, NMC Fitness to Practise Committee, 2025 – counsel for the registrant in a substantive fitness to practise hearing – misconduct, impairment and sanction in professional discipline proceedings concerning workplace conduct by a registered nurse.
