Top Rankings for Compass in Chambers UK Bar Guide 2022

Compass Chambers is delighted to have been recognised as a leading set by Chambers UK in the latest edition of the directory which was published today. Compass has received 47 individual rankings in 7 practice area categories. Compass is also ranked Band 1 as a set in 4 categories – Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Health & Safety and Product Liability.

In Personal Injury, Compass has 24 members ranked and is the only set in Scotland to be recognised as Band 1. The directory reports that Compass is "the leading stable in Scotland for personal injury work." It goes on to say that Compass “houses a strong bench of senior and junior advocates who are regularly instructed to act on behalf of both pursuers and defenders in high-value catastrophic injury, industrial disease and fatal accident claims.” Robert Milligan QC is ranked as a Star Individual in the area.

In Clinical Negligence, Compass has 9 members ranked and is ranked Band 1 as a set. The directory says that Compass is “a leading stable in the Scottish medical negligence market, and houses expertise spanning a wide range of disputes.” It also says that Compass is "an excellent stable, the quality is high and they have highly regarded advocates." Individual rankings include Malcolm McGregor who is the only Junior at the Bar recognised in Band 1 in the area.

In Health & Safety, all 4 Advocates ranked by Chambers UK in Scotland come from Compass. Compass is again ranked Band 1 as a set in the area. The directory says Compass Chambers “houses a strong bench of advocates who are highly regarded for their expert handling of complex health and safety cases arising across the engineering, oil and gas, rail and construction sectors, among others. The stable is regularly instructed in the most high-profile health and safety cases in the market.” Peter Gray QC and Murdo Macleod QC are recognised as Star Individuals in the area.

In Product Liability, Compass has 7 members ranked and is ranked Band 1 as a set in the area. Compass is also recognised as Band 1 as a set in the area. The directory says Compass “houses a strong bench of advocates and impressive expertise in complex product liability disputes” and says Compass members “have considerable experience of acting on behalf of both pursuers and defender manufacturers in claims involving medical devices.”

There is also praise for the Clerking team with the directory saying "The clerks are very supportive, flexible and excellent at communication." It also says that the clerks are "Always very helpful and quick to respond”. Another says "The clerking service is one of the best in Scotland. All the clerks are pleasant and approachable, but special mention must go to the deputy clerk Lesley Hogg, who is always willing to help arrange things at the last minute. The head clerk, Gavin Herd, is very experienced, approachable and always helpful." "They are very easy to deal with and always available.” "The clerks are very responsive, user-friendly, proactive at isolating the issues and transparent on fees."
