Compass Chambers August Covid-19 Webinar Series

At Compass we always seek to provide added value. Given the current situation we are unable to provide our hugely popular conferences, but we are delighted to announce a series of short webinars which will take place throughout August. Each session will focus on one of our core areas of practice while considering the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The line-up of talks and speakers is as follows –

Thursday 6th August @ 1pm – Geoff Clarke QC and Malcolm McGregor “Causation and Covid-19”
Geoff and Malcolm will explore and discuss how the current law on causation will affect personal injury and medical negligence claims arising from Covid-19, while looking at possible avenues for the courts to overcome possible obstacles to establishing causation.

Thursday 13th August @ 1pm – Murdo Macleod QC and Emma Toner “Public Inquiries and FAIs in the Covid-19 era”
Murdo and Emma will discuss what Covid-19 Inquiries might look like, what they could conclude and how they should be approached.

Thursday 20th August @ 1pm – Steve Love QC and Elaine Russell “Vicarious Liability – working in a Covid-19 climate”
Steve and Elaine will provide a summary of the state of the law on Vicarious Liability following the Supreme Court’s decisions in Barclays Bank plc v Various Claimants and WM Morrison Supermarkets plc v Various Claimants before looking at the possible impact of those decisions in the post Covid-19 working environment

Thursday 27th August @ 1pm – Kay Springham QC and Ranald Macpherson “The Care Home Blame Game – Whose Fault Is It Anyway?”
Kay and Ranald will look at the significant problem of Covid-19 in care homes, where claims might come from and the standards against which the NHS and care sector, and those working in it, will be judged.

Each webinar will feature a 20 minute talk followed by the opportunity for questions. A recording will be made available on our website for those who are unable to watch live. To book your place, please visit the Seminar section of our website here.

We will be providing further webinars after the August series. If you have any suggestions of topics that you would like to hear about or if you would be interested in tailored, remote in-house training for your firm, please contact a member of the Compass clerking team.
