Barney Ross KC appointed as Senior Counsel

We are delighted to announce the appointment of new silk Barney Ross KC.

Barney was among 16 new King's Counsel appointed by His Majesty The King on the recommendation of First Minister John Swinney.

The rank of King’s Counsel is generally reserved for those who have distinguished themselves in practice in the Supreme Courts. Advocates and Solicitors with Rights of Audience in the Supreme Courts are eligible to apply to the Lord Justice General, Scotland’s senior judge. Before making nominations to the First Minister, the Lord Justice General consults other judges, the Lord Advocate, the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates and the President of the Law Society of Scotland.

Barney specialises in Reparation, Regulatory and Criminal Law. In his civil practice, Barney acts for both pursuers and defenders in fatal and catastrophic injury actions in the Court of Session, including brain and spinal injury claims. He has particular expertise in the specialist areas of clinical negligence, industrial disease and historical child abuse. Barney is instructed in Public Inquiries, Fatal Accident Inquiries and for the defence in criminal prosecutions relating to health and safety, environmental, maritime, and other regulatory offences.

Compass Practice Manager Gavin Herd said "We are delighted for Barney on his appointment, it is well deserved. Barney has built a great practice across our core areas of Reparation, Regulatory Crime and Inquiries and has a fantastic reputation. We are sure this will continue into his career as Senior Counsel and we wish him all the best.”
