Bruce Langlands

Bruce called to the Bar in 2019 after 10 years as a solicitor and Solicitor-Advocate.   He is regularly instructed by both pursuers and defenders in all areas of personal injury litigation including road traffic, employers’ liability, occupiers’ liability, and public liability.

He is instructed in claims arising from historical child abuse, in industrial disease claims and he is also instructed in a number of medical negligence actions. He has experience of professional negligence actions.   

Bruce is recognised for his efficiency and the ability to navigate quickly to the heart of a dispute and resolve it in the best interests of the client.

Representative Cases

  • Laura Malone v Lord Advocate - instructed on behalf of the pursuer in her £1.3m damages claim following the development of psychiatric injuries sustained during the course of her employment as a Procurator Fiscal in the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service. 

  • Norma Cuthbertson v Murray Bain t/a Harelaw Equestrian Centre - successfully obtained decree of absolvitor for the defender following Proof.  The pursuer brought a case for damages following significant injuries she sustained after a fall from a horse.  The pursuer sought to blame the defender’s employee for riding too close to the pursuer whilst on a hack.

  • Currently instructed on behalf of a number of pursuers in claims for historical child abuse, in particular by pursuers who have suffered abuse in various institutions and at the hands of various organisations.

  • Currently instructed on behalf of one defender in a £750,000 damages case brought by a pursuer who, as a pedestrian, was crushed against a wall following a crash between two cars.

  • Previously instructed on behalf of the defenders in a claim brought by a pursuer who suffered extensive injuries following a road traffic accident.  The case settled at the pre-trial meeting with a significant saving against the defenders’ reserve.
