Corporate Financial Investigations and Prosecutions:

Matt has considerable experience in the field of corporate financial investigation including:

  • Prosecutions brought under the Insolvency Acts;
  • Prosecutions relating to allegations of VAT fraud, and related excise duties evasion;
  • Investigatory Proceedings relating to director disqualification.

Proceeds of Crime and Asset Recovery:

Matt has extensive experience of confiscation proceedings, and all aspects of asset recovery investigations, involving close relations with Crown Office's Financial Crime Unit.

Regulatory Crime:

Matt has been instructed regularly in relation to all aspects of regulatory crime including:

  • Prosecutions brought under Trading Standards legislation;
  • Prosecutions relating to criminal aspects of copyright;
  • Prosecutions brought under Road Traffic legislation, and in particular contraventions of Section 1 of the Road Traffic Act 1988;

Professional Disciplinary Proceedings:

Matt is developing a significant practice in this area and has represented individuals before a number of disciplinary bodies including sports and academic disciplinary tribunals. Further, Matt sits as a Board Member of the Scottish Professional Rugby Players Association.

Fatal Accidents Inquiries:

Matt has experience of appearing in a number of Inquiries, including those related to road traffic accidents and deaths in police custody.

PUBLICATIONS AND SEMINARS:

  • Joint author of written submissions to Office of Fair Trading relative to the operation of the criminal aspects of the Enterprise Act 2002 in Scotland.
  • Seminar for Continuing Professional Development programme , Preparation for High Court Trials.
