Defamation and Media Law
Compass Chambers undertakes all forms of media work. This includes defamation, privacy claims and hearings in terms of the Contempt of Court Act 1981.
Members regularly act for a wide range of media organisations, and the Chambers is also able to offer prompt and sensible advice for private individuals considering litigation or a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission. Members can be contacted out of hours to either seek or resist interim interdict.
In recent years, Members of Chambers have been involved in some of Scotland's most high profile claims involving defamation and related matters, including Craig Moore v Scottish Daily Record ; Shirley McKie v Scottish Ministers; Lord Robertson of Port Ellen v Newsquest ; Irene Adams MP v Guardian Newspapers; James Wray MP v Associated Newspapers; and Gordon Thomson v The Law Society of Scotland and others.
