PRACTICE

Richard was a solicitor with a civil litigation practice for twelve years before coming to the Bar. He was with Harper Macleod for eleven years, seven as partner.

Richard's principal field of practice is personal injury, including employers' liability, occupiers' claims, clinical negligence and motor claims.

Richard's other areas of practice are reparation, criminal assets recovery, personal insolvency, commercial litigation and property insurance claims.

For over three years before calling Richard practised as a solicitor advocate, undertaking written work and appearing regularly in the Court of Session. He has appeared in many courts and tribunals and at fatal accident inquiries. 

In 2008 Richard served as a firm Panel legal adviser to the Scottish Social Services Council, advising its lay memebrs on rules and procedure.            

He has long standing interests in occupational diseases litigation and criminal assets recovery.

TEACHING AND SEMINARS

Richard is a Tutor on the WS Society's PCC Civil Litigation Elective. He taught mercantile law on the University of Glasgow's Ll.B.   

Richard has chaired and spoken at conferences and seminars with Central Law Training, the Law Society of Scotland and other organisations. Subjects include "Personal Injuries," "Occupational Stress", "Work Related Injuries and Diseases," "Simplified Personal Injuries Procedure" and "The Insurance Policy."
